JOHN (not his real name) brought his girlfriend to a “kalibonan,” a Cebuano word for a bushy area, in Sitio Bibina, Barangay Looc in Danao City, northern Cebu on Friday night, April 29, 2022, for a date.What was supposed to be the young couple’s romantic moment in the “kalibonan” became a nightmare when an unidentified robber held them at gunpoint, taking away their smartphones—one was worth P28,000 while the other was P10,000.John, 19, and his 18-year-old girlfriend Julia (not her real name) only reported the incident to the police on Sunday morning, May 1, as they were reportedly traumatized by the incident, Danao City police officer Allan Vertucio told Superbalita Cebu.Before the robbery, happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday, John and Julia had agreed to go out on a date in a secluded area in Sitio Bibina, far from houses. They arrived at the “kalibonan” on a motorcycle driven by John.While they were in the middle of their date, the robber appeared out of nowhere; he aimed his gun at the couple and took their smartphones.The couple failed to see the culprit’s face as the place was basked in darkness.After taking the smartphones, the robber fled. John and Julia did not continue their date; they went back to their respective homes.
