Zigong International Dinosaur Culture Tourism Festival Offers a Grand Showcase from the ‘City of Lanterns and Salt Capital’

ZIGONG, China, Sept. 30, 2025 — The fourth Zigong International Dinosaur Culture Tourism Festival, organized by the Zigong Municipal People’s Government, is set to commence on September 30. This timing aims to coincide with the tourism surge anticipated during the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. A diverse array of activities—including dinosaur parades, stunning fireworks displays, the global introduction of intelligent bionic dinosaur robots, the inauguration of the new Zigong Dinosaur Museum Hall, and a grand thousand-person dinosaur procession—will present visitors from across the globe with a rich cultural and tourism experience, highlighting the distinctive essence of the “City of Lanterns and Salt Capital”.

Zigong is located in the southern part of China’s Sichuan Basin and is celebrated as the “Hometown of Dinosaurs.” It is home to a vast collection of unearthed dinosaur fossils and hosts the Zigong Dinosaur Museum, recognized as one of the world’s top three dinosaur museums.

The recently opened hall of the Zigong Dinosaur Museum will leverage digital technology and other contemporary advancements to enhance its exhibition methods and elevate the visitor experience.

Zigong Fantawild Dinosaur Kingdom is launching a series of dinosaur-themed attractions. During daylight hours, guests can enjoy a “Hundred-Dinosaur Grand Parade,” while at night, a thousand-drone show and a “Prehistoric Starlight” fireworks display will illuminate the sky. Concurrently, Zigong Huashang International City has inaugurated a “Prehistoric Party” themed dinosaur parade, featuring intelligent bionic dinosaurs, food floats, and more.

Zigong also holds the distinction of being a millennia-old salt capital. Its name is derived from the world’s most ancient salt wells, “Ziliujing” and “Gongjing.” Additionally, Zigong lanterns are designated as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China. Serving as a prime example of traditional folk art blended with modern craftsmanship, these lanterns have become a defining element of China’s cultural exports.

The Zigong Ziliujing Old Street will host a carnival where visitors can wander through its historic alleyways, partake in a folk music festival, and participate in the “Salt Charm Invites the Moon” river lantern release event, engaging with 100 performers dressed in Hanfu.

The festival is scheduled to conclude on October 8. Several themed touring routes have been specially designed for the occasion, connecting 12 popular check-in locations. These routes are intended to encourage visitors to explore local streets, complete enjoyable tasks to earn limited-edition medals, and immerse themselves in authentic Zigong life through daytime adventures and nighttime culinary explorations.
