YANGZHOU, China, March 30, 2026 — On March 29, the 2026 Yangzhou Half Marathon and the 4th East Asian Half Marathon Championships commenced at the Yangzhou Citizens’ Center Plaza. A total of 23,000 participants raced past historic canals and through the city’s ancient streets, experiencing the vibrant spring scenery of the “World Capital of Canals.”

The event attracted elite runners from 35 countries and regions, showcasing remarkable athletic talent. The competition saw historic achievements in both categories: Kenyan athlete Alex NZIOKA MATATA secured the men’s title in 00:59:11, and Miriam CHEBET won the women’s gold in 01:06:27. Both winners broke course records and established new all-time bests for half marathons in China, further enhancing the event’s global reputation.

This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Yangzhou Marathon and marks its first edition since receiving “Platinum Label” status from World Athletics. As one of only four such events in China, the race adhered to top-tier international standards, utilizing AI-driven robotic assistants along the route to facilitate efficient and modern operations.
