LOUDI, China, Sept. 12, 2025 — The 2025 “Ziquejie Terraced Fields in Dialogue with the World” — encompassing both the 3rd Agricultural Cultural Exchange and Mutual Learning Conference and the 9th Agricultural Heritage Conference — commenced in Xinhua County, Loudi City on Friday. Approximately 200 attendees participated in the event, including representatives from significant global and national agricultural cultural heritage sites, alongside domestic and international experts and scholars in related fields, all collaborating to outline a strategy for cultural and tourism development.
Spanning three days, the conference is centered on the theme: “Re-empowering Living Agricultural Heritage, Innovating the Inheritance of Agricultural Civilization, and Promoting Sustainable Agricultural Development.” Its agenda features keynote speeches, conference reports, parallel forums, terraced field inspections, and tourism promotion meetings. The objective is to establish a high-standard, international platform for dialogue to jointly explore approaches for preserving and inheriting agricultural cultural heritage, share the wisdom of terraced field farming practices, and collectively forge a prosperous future for sustainable development.
In recent years, Loudi City has fortified the protection and management of its terraced fields, unearthed the cultural value of agricultural heritage in accordance with local conditions, championed the transformation and evolution of agricultural heritage culture, and fostered the multi-dimensional integration of terraced field preservation with cultural tourism and intangible cultural heritage inheritance. It has pioneered initiatives such as public adoption programs for terraced fields, research and study education, and tourism promotion through festivals. By deeply intertwining agriculture, culture, and tourism, Loudi has propelled the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas, breathing new life into agricultural heritage, invigorating related industries, and boosting the incomes of villagers.
In spring, Ziquejie’s terraced fields appear as shimmering silver ribbons; in summer, they undulate like verdant green waves; in autumn, they gleam like golden mountains; in winter, they sparkle like colorful glaze… The captivating year-round landscape of Ziquejie is drawing international interest due to its distinct appeal. In 2024, Ziquejie welcomed over 600,000 visitors, generating a total tourism revenue of approximately 200 million yuan.
As this “landscape of plenty” transforms into a prominent “tourist destination,” this thousand-year-old terraced field area is building significant momentum to embark on a splendid new chapter of cultural-tourism-agriculture integration, thereby painting a vibrant vision of rural revitalization.
