Ordos Hosts 10th Kubuqi International Desert Forum, Showcasing Its Desert Control Achievements Globally

ORDOS, China, Sept. 19, 2025 — On September 17, the 10th Kubuqi International Desert Forum, a two-day event, concluded in Ordos, located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. During the forum, participants adopted the Consensus of the 10th Kubuqi International Desert Forum. This consensus advocates for the scientific classification of prohibited protection zones, systematic restoration zones, and rational utilization zones to effectively combat desertification where viable and necessary. It also calls for bolstered global action by integrating grassland preservation and restoration into the core objectives of international ecological governance, encouraging collaboration and knowledge exchange in grassland ecological restoration technologies, championing the establishment of an International Grassland Alliance, and endorsing the creation of an International Grassland Day.

Throughout the forum, Ordos presented to the world the accomplishments of its “Four Lines of Desert Control” — specifically, green belts for sand stabilization, warping dams for soil retention, photovoltaic sand control belts that offer both ecological and economic advantages, and shelter forests designed to curb desertification expansion. This comprehensive governance approach has successfully lowered sediment flow into the Yellow River from 27 million tons to 4 million tons. Furthermore, it has achieved a 40% restoration rate in the Kubuqi Desert and over 80% in the Mu Us Sandy Land, earning widespread commendation and approval.
