PIA Automation Unveils High-Precision Automated System for Razor Cartridge Production

Patented multi-blade technology and parallel high-speed transport systems guarantee precision, reliability, and high-volume production of razor cartridges

Evansville, IN, March 04, 2026 — PIA Automation, a global frontrunner in advanced automation solutions, today unveiled the successful development and launch of a new high-volume assembly and packaging line for personal shaving razor cartridges. The system merges patented multi-blade technology with dual parallel high-speed transport systems to provide uniform quality, dependability, and rapid operation in challenging production environments.

Engineered to manage the fragile parts of personal shaving products, every razor cartridge must satisfy stringent standards for a close and comfortable shave. The thin, hardened, and sharpened blades demand exact handling, consistent assembly, and stable high-speed procedures. To address these needs, PIA Automation collaborated extensively with a longstanding customer to create a new, fully automated system that supports high-volume manufacturing while upholding superior quality.

“Our multi-blade stations are purpose-built for high-speed applications like this,” stated Tim Schuller, Product Manager at PIA Automation. “For this project, we further refined the technology for both separating blades from the magazine and accurately placing them into the cartridge frame. The outcome is an extremely stable, low-wear assembly process that guarantees dependable, long-term performance at peak throughput.”

A central component of the line is PIA Automation’s established multi-blade stations, which manage the crucial automated production steps of blade separation and insertion with precision and process control, especially at high production speeds.

Six multi-blade stations are incorporated throughout the system via two parallel high-speed transport systems. Every module features fully automated infeed and outfeed capabilities for necessary components, maintaining a steady material flow while enabling specific decoupling of separate process stages.

“Assembly cycles with longer durations can be performed repeatedly on the same line without lowering total output,” explained Schuller. “The workpiece carriers are allocated across multiple cycle-critical stations, which helps prevent any unplanned stoppages.”

Each finished razor cartridge undergoes a comprehensive final inspection using a specially designed mix of 2D cameras and 3D laser scanners. After inspection, the cartridges are packed automatically, accommodating various market specifications on the same line with no extra changeover time.

Through this new system, PIA Automation further establishes industry-specific benchmarks in the automated manufacturing and assembly of sensitive shaving components. For additional details regarding the assembly and packaging line, please visit:
