WeRide’s Robotaxi Secures Driverless Permit in Switzerland; Company’s Autonomous Vehicles Now Licensed in Eight Nations.

ZURICH, Nov. 20, 2025 – WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD, HKEX: 0800.HK), a leading global entity in autonomous driving technology, revealed today that its Robotaxi has secured a driverless permit from Switzerland’s Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). This authorization allows the Robotaxi to operate autonomously on public roads within the Furttal region and marks the inaugural driverless Robotaxi permit for passenger transport in Switzerland.

This approval establishes WeRide as the sole company globally to possess autonomous driving permits for its vehicles across eight countries: Switzerland, China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, France, Belgium, and the United States. This represents a significant achievement in its worldwide growth strategy.

The permit allows WeRide Robotaxis to commence fully driverless commercial operations within the “iamo” (Intelligent Automated Mobility) pilot project, following the conclusion of testing. The “iamo” initiative, spearheaded by the Swiss Transit Lab (STL) alongside the Cantons of Zurich and Aargau and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), seeks to investigate the integration of autonomous vehicles (AVs) into public transport networks. Its goals include enhancing local mobility, boosting last-mile connectivity, and fostering more efficient and sustainable transportation. These vehicles are planned to cover a 110-kilometer operating area, encompassing approximately 460 stops, at speeds reaching 80 km/h.

WeRide and its collaborators have initiated AV testing, featuring an on-board safety driver, in partnership with a local driving school, subsequent to comprehensive field readiness. This testing is currently active across numerous sites in Furttal, such as Boppelsen, Otelfingen, Buchs, Dänikon, Würenlos, Killwangen, Hüttikon, Dällikon, and Regensdorf. Throughout this stage, the Robotaxis will undergo adaptive driving sessions in diverse traffic and weather scenarios to guarantee full adherence to Swiss road regulations.

Following successful testing in collaboration with FEDRO, WeRide is set to commence fully driverless testing. During this phase, vehicles will be remotely supervised from a central support center managed by Eurobus, Switzerland’s largest private bus company.

Upon meeting all prerequisites, including specific mileage benchmarks, WeRide anticipates launching fully driverless public passenger service in the first half of 2026. Subsequently, the company plans to broaden its fleet to incorporate Robobuses, thereby creating Switzerland’s inaugural mixed autonomous vehicle fleet comprising both Robotaxis and Robobuses.

This latest development enhances WeRide’s expanding footprint in Switzerland. Since June 2025, employees at Zurich Airport have been utilizing WeRide’s Robobus shuttle service for commutes between the airport head (Gate 101) and the maintenance yard (Gate 103). Furthermore, in October 2025, WeRide and Zurich Airport initiated personnel training for both rear-seat and remote Robobus cockpit operations, in anticipation of upcoming fully driverless operations.
