Abne faces Ligas for OPBF belt in ‘Engkwentro Dos’

UNBEATEN prospect April Jay Abne is in for tough test Bienvenido Ligas in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Silver flyweight title fight in the main event of ARQ Boxing’s “Engkwentro Dos” today, Oct. 30, 2021, in Mandaue City.

The 22-year-old Abne is one of the fastest-rising flyweight prospects from the Philippines.

He proved that after winning Gerry Peñalosa’s Ultimate Boxing Series flyweight tournament with a majority decision over Ronel Sumalpong in the finals.

Abne is coming off a third round stoppage of Royder Lloyd Borbon in the main event of “Engkwentro Uno” on June 20.

Ligas poses a huge threat to Abne’s ascent.

Despite being just 23 years old, Ligas has already fought 16 pro fights. He is the Philippine champion and has beaten the likes of veteran Alphoe Dagayloan and Cristoval Furog. He’s coming off a majority draw with Miel Fajardo on July 3 in Urdaneta City.

Abne is 6-0 with four knockouts, while Ligas is 13-1-2 with nine knockouts.

In the undercard, Ian Abne (2-0, 2 KOs) locks horns with fellow undefeated fighter Christopher Caburog (2-0), BJ Wild (5-0, 4 KOs) slugs it out with Rimon Rama (6-3-1, 4 KOs), Rodex Piala (5-6, 1 KO) takes on Jeffrey Stella (4-11-3, 4 KOs), and Berland Robles (3-2) is up against Jimpol Dignos (2-1, 1 KO).

Brix Piala squares off with John Tarona, Yerodge Gura is fighting Renante Noblefranca (0-2), Arniel Cañete (0-1) faces off with Marvin Rusiana and Augosto Abne trades leathers with Marvin Campo. (EKA)
