AboitizPower, Teleperformance sign Clearnergy deal

ABOITIZ Power Corp. (AboitizPower), through its retail electricity supply company Advent Energy Inc., was tapped to provide leading outsourcing firm Teleperformance Philippines with Cleanergy to initially power its Bacolod and Sucat offices and take them closer to their sustainability goals.

Cleanergy is AboitizPower’s renewable energy (RE) solutions brand that supplies communities and businesses with power derived from run-of-river, large hydro, solar and geothermal. Teleperformance said they plan to switch more offices to Cleanergy in the future.

“As a business process management (BPM) company, we are proud to contribute to the country’s growth by providing thousands of jobs to career-seekers,” Teleperformance Philippines chief executive officer Francisco Lara said. “We take our participation in the Philippines’ nation-building a step further by adding climate action as part of our commitment to the environment, which we call the Citizen of the Planet initiative.”

Lara shared that transitioning to renewable energy is easy with a reliable partner like AboitizPower to guide them through the process.

With over 57,000 employees in 23 business sites across the country, Teleperformance is among the Philippines’ most prominent BPM companies, helping contribute to the economy’s growth. With this switch, Lara shared they could leave their mark as one of the first BPMs in the nation to use RE in their operations.

BPMs consume energy around the clock, making the switch more significant as this is considered a step toward decarbonizing a key sector of the Philippine economy.

“We hope this action will inspire other BPMs in the country to be as environmentally conscious and consider switching to RE,” Lara added.

AboitizPower senior vice president for commercial operations Sandro Aboitiz highlighted that the transition to a cleaner energy future involves the convergence of many things, among which are the choices consumers make, supportive government policies, and the participation of industry players.

“This partnership with Teleperformance affirms our efforts to emphasize the impact retail electricity customers have in preserving the environment through the kind of energy they choose,” Aboitiz stated. “We are happy that through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), we can collaborate with various industries under a long-term goal of achieving business sustainability and energy security through Cleanergy.”

The GEOP is a scheme that empowers consumers by allowing them to choose RE as their source of electricity. The government said this would help the country achieve energy independence by lessening reliance on imported energy sources such as fossil fuels.

Aboitiz shared that the company has allotted P190 billion to expand its RE portfolio to 4,600 MW or threefold its current capacity by 2030. This investment will help address the market’s growing demands and contribute to managing climate-related risks. (PR)
