Active soldier nabbed for ‘selling’ illegal firearms from Danao City, Cebu

AN ACTIVE member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines was arrested for allegedly selling firearms made in Danao City, Cebu on Friday morning, Dec. 10, 2021.

Staff Sergeant Cristobal Pantoja, 46, was caught in a gun bust conducted by law enforcers and military led by the Police Regional Intelligence Division Central Visayas (RID 7) in the parking lot of a firing range in Camp Lapulapu in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

Pantoja yielded three .45 pistols with magazines and 5.56mm rifles with silencers.

In an interview with Superbalita Cebu, Pantoja admitted that the .45 pistols came from Danao City.

As to the rifles, Pantoja said one of them was government-issued.

Pantoja said he had planned to file for early retirement on Dec. 30 before his arrest.

The RID 7 placed him under surveillance for nearly two months after receiving reports about Pantoja’s involvement in selling unlicensed firearms.

Pantoja will be facing complaints for selling illegal firearm.
