Batch 2012, 1998 win titles in USPF alumni tournament

BATCH 2012 and 1998 won the titles in their respective divisions in the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Alumni Association Inter-Batch Basketball Tournament on Feb. 5, 2023 at the USPF gym in Lahug, Cebu City.

Batch 2012 leaned on the brilliance of Gio Antigua who tallied 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block to push his team past Batch 2002, 66-56, in Game 3 of the Division B finals series to help them claim the championship.

Antigua was named Finals MVP, which he added to the season MVP award he captured earlier in the tournament. He averaged 21 points, four rebounds and two assists per game.

Antigua also nabbed a spot on the Mythical Five along with his teammate Clint Remedio, 2002’s Careem Micarandayo and Marvin Pulvera, and 2003’s Elmer Ratilla.

In Division A, 1998 swept 1997, with an 87-78 win in Game 2. Wilbert Santiago led the way for Batch 1998 with his 24 points, seven rebounds and two dimes. Aris Magdales also had 14 markers for 1998.

Santiago was also named the Finals MVP and to the Mythical Five along with season MVP Luis Enero of 1999, 1998’s Bonifacio Heramis and Ervin Caballero, and 1992’s Richard Bauzon.
