BFAR 7 empowers women fisherfolk through lambaklad poject

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 7 celebrated Women’s Month in March by highlighting the efforts of empowered women fisherfolk in Borbon, Cebu and Siaton, Negros Oriental.

In these communities, women are not limited to traditional roles of picking shellfish or processing and marketing catch, but are also actively participating in hands-on training and construction of set nets for the implementation of the lambaklad project, the BFAR 7 said in a statement posted on its Facebook page on March 24, 2023.

According to the BFAR 7, the lambaklad project aligns with its mission of providing beneficiaries with affordable and accessible food, while promoting sustainable fishing practices.

The lambaklad set net is an eco-friendly fishing gear that has been promoted as a source of income for fisherfolk in Borbon, Cebu and Siaton, Negros Oriental.

The BFAR 7 said the lambaklad project encourages the use of sustainable fishing technology to increase output while minimizing environmental impact. (KAL)
