Cebu City releases P7M in allowances to scholars

THE Cebu City Government has released over P7 million in allowances to its 4,488 student-scholars.Distribution started on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, and ended on Wednesday, Feb. 23, said Cerwin Eviota, the city public information officer.Of the scholars, 4,294 are enrolled at the University of Cebu while 94 are studying at the Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise Technical Institute, according to the data provided by Juvy Yap Navarette, executive director of the Cebu City Scholarship Program.Each scholar received P1,000 as allowance for the purchase of their school supplies like notebooks and pens.A total of P4.5 million was released for the students’ school supplies allowance.However, only P2.6 million was released for the transportation allowance for 525 Cebu City scholars who are senior high school graduates and residents of mountain barangays. Each of them received the P5,000 transportation allowance.The Cebu City Scholarship Program is an initiative by the City to help deserving students pursue higher education.
