Cebu City’s 1st drive-thru clinic for Covid-19 vaccination at SRP

THE Cebu City Government will establish its first drive-through vaccination site in the New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (Noah) Complex at the South Road Properties (SRP) within the week.

Acting Mayor Michael Rama, during a press conference on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, said aside from mobile vaccination, the City will also look into pocket vaccination and cluster vaccination by barangay.

Rama said the City has to establish a “hybrid” Covid-19 vaccination program to ramp up the vaccine rollout.

On Friday, Aug. 6, the City conducted a dry run for the house-to-house vaccination.

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, City Health Department officer-in-charge, said the City opened its seventh vaccination site at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on Aug. 9.

Ibones said the Vaccine Board plans to open a vaccination center at SM City Cebu and the Tisa barangay gym.

Rama said members of the board will also inspect malls and schools, including the University of San Carlos and the Southwestern University Phinma, and areas in mountain barangays that can serve as vaccination centers.

He said the City targets to open 21 vaccination sites so it can fast-track its vaccination program and achieve herd immunity before the year ends.

Rama said once the City’s vaccination program is within manageable levels, the City will reach out to neighboring cities through its Big Brother Program.

For now, Cebu City administers 5,000 to 7,000 doses a day, he said.

Rama said the registration for the Covid-19 vaccination has increased 400 percent in the past few days.

There are now more than 470,000 who have registered to be vaccinated.

As of Sunday, Aug. 8, Cebu City had more than 91,000 fully vaccinated individuals.

The city’s population is close to one million. (JJL)
