Cebuanos celebrate hope-filled Christmas 2022

It’s truly the most beautiful time of the year as Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa Cebu celebrated “Tropical Holidays at Mactan,” an intimate tree lighting event, on Nov. 24.

The event was well attended by Shangri-La’s executive committee, government representatives, friends from the corporate and media sectors, as well as in-house guests. The gathering was a continuation of the enchanted holiday tradition of the five-star resort.

General manager Dave Junker expressed his gratitude towards his guests, and explained the significance of celebrating this year’s Christmas celebration. Junker emphasized the events of December 2021, as Typhoon Odette wreaked havoc on Cebu: Trees were uprooted, the landscape was depressing, and people were negatively impacted. Christmas last year was significantly different from celebrations in the past.

This year, Shangri-La Mactan joined forces with the Women’s Association of Basawon—a local group in Bantayan Island that earns its living by weaving sustainable materials—to commemorate the season of giving. Twelve months after Typhoon Odette, Shangri-La is back in business, and its team is running at full speed to transform sadness into hope.

Christmas ornaments made by tenacious and aspiring women are offered for sale at the resort’s front desk, with the proceeds going to support the association’s endeavors to shape a brighter future for their neighborhood. Another symbol of hope worth taking note of, is the repurposed wood from the tragic typhoon adorning the 12-foot Christmas tree in the resort.

Truly, the holiday season is ideal for creating amazing memories with loved ones. The five-star resort is the ideal location to celebrate the holidays; the festive and joyful tropical ambiance is almost palpable.

For a special occasion with loved ones, hearty, culinary options are also available at its restaurants that offer both indoor and outdoor settings with beautiful scenery.

The Christmas and New Year buffets at Tides, the platter sets at Cowrie Cove, or the traditional Filipino buffet at the Buko Bar will definitely draw more guests in feasting and celebrating the joy of the season with their variety of delectable dishes.

Experience Christmas at Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa, and savor a variety of mouthwatering flavors for a Christmas dining experience unlike any other.
