LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said parents will face sanctions if their children are caught violating quarantine protocol—and the youngsters’ common mistake is their non-wearing of masks while in public spaces.
The local executive decided to warn parents as Lapu-Lapu City recorded an increase in the number of children who tested positive for Covid-19.
Recently, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of the Department of Health (DOH) 7, said they are looking into the possibility that children are superspreaders of Covid-19.
The DOH 7 noticed that the number of children who tested positive for the novel coronavirus increased by 70 percent.
Chan said parents should not allow their children to go outside their houses amid the pandemic. One of his executive orders imposes a stay-at-home restriction for persons below 15 years old.
The mayor said he does not want more youngsters getting infected with Covid-19.
Composite teams
Chan has formed four composite teams that will inspect business establishments and check if their operators are implementing the minimum health protocol—requiring their employees and customers to wear masks and observe social distancing.
He recently received reports about businesses not following the public health measures imposed by the government to slow down the spread of Covid-19.
Bars, videoke joints, cockpits, markets, beaches and other attractions in the city will be monitored closely, said Chan. (GCM)
