Concreting of J.M. Ceniza St. ‘completed’

FLOODING on J.M. Ceniza St. in Sitio Superior, Barangay Looc, Mandaue City should no longer pose a problem to motorists and residents as the road has recently been concreted and a drainage system installed underneath.

The City Government allocated P34,112,590 for the project, which is considered one of Mayor Jonas Cortes’ priority projects.

Cortes’ executive secretary John Eddu Ibañez said the road used to get inundated with water during heavy downpours but that has changed since the road improvement was implemented.

The drainage system carries floodwater to the sea, he said.

Ibañez said they also talked with residents who gave them a positive feedback.

The concrete road will also benefit emergency vehicles as they will have smooth travel when responding to emergency situations in the area, Ibañez said.

The project, said Ibañez, will also ease the traffic along D.M. Cortes St.

The mayor plans to use J.M. Ceniza St. as an access road for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) going to Lapu-Lapu City. The PUJs may pass through A. Soriano Ave. going to J.M. Ceniza St., then to Sitio Paradise and to the First Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.

Aside from J.M. Ceniza St., the City Government also concreted Jose L. Briones St. beside the Mandaue City Hospital.

The street, which serves as an access road to the Ouano Wharf, is swampy, Ibañez said.

The project, which was allocated P16,048,290, was completed on Oct. 30, 2020. (KFD)
