RESIDENTS of San Remigio can expect at least P20 million worth of projects to improve the health, peacekeeping, livelihood and legislative capabilities of the northwestern Cebu town.This after requests for financial assistance for such endeavors were unveiled during the session of the municipal council last Friday, July 8, 2022.Municipal Councilor Jay Olivar endorsed a resolution requesting P10 million from Rep. Janice Salimbangon (Cebu, fourth district) for the construction of a two-story legislative building for the town, Vice Mayor Mariano Martinez revealed in a Facebook post.From Salimbangon, Olivar also sought P1 million for permanent signage like traffic signs, street names and directional signs.To beef up the town’s health facilities, Councilor Alphonsine Corominas-Gonzales endorsed a resolution requesting P10 million from Sen. Grace Poe for the purchase of “needed modalities, gym and health equipment for the improvement of the San Remigio Rural Health Unit Physiotherapy Center.”From Ako Bisaya Party-list Rep. Sonny Lagon, Corominas-Gonzales requested P1 million for the purchase of tents for the town’s 27 barangays.Also from Corominas-Gonzales was a resolution requesting P500,000 from Provincial Board Member Kerrie Shimura for the purchase of a service vehicle for the Barangay Peace Keeping Action Team.Fund requests were also made to San Remigio Mayor Alfonso Pestolante for fishing equipment and a walkway, Martinez revealed.Olivar requested P100,000 for a payaw (artificial reef) project in the barangays of Punta, Poblacion, Looc and Anapog, and P165,678.75 to build a meter-wide cemented walkway from Purok Avocado of Sitio Tubo to Sitio Toong in Canagahan.From the Office of the Mayor, on the other hand, was a resolution seeking P1 million in financial aid from Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to defray the expenses of the town’s contingent in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.Last Wednesday, Garcia had said the Capitol would give a total of P53.5 million in financial assistance to the 50 towns and six component cities that would participate in the Pasigarbo festival on Aug. 28.The 43 local government units (LGUs) on the Cebu mainland would get P1 million each while the seven LGUs in Bantayan and Camotes would get P1.5 million each.The Pasigarbo is returning after a two-year hiatus brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
