Ex-officio dad eyes higher post

ASSOCIATION of Barangay Councils President and Kasambagan Barangay Captain Franklyn Ong is open to run for a higher position in Cebu City in the 2022 elections.

However, Ong said he still has to consult his partymates and the public.

“We are open to that,” Ong told reporters.

Ong, who belongs to Bando Osmeña – Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), said that aside from consulting his partymates, he also has to wait for the decision of their party head, former Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña.

He said final decisions will be known before October, which is the start of the filing of the certificates of candidacy.

Ong was also thankful to those who believe in him and urged him to seek a higher seat in City Hall.

When asked what position he has his eye on, Ong said it is the public’s decision.

“I think the people will be the one to decide on that one kung unsa gyud ilang tan-aw (what they actually see),” he said. “Any opportunity for me to serve, to apply my God’s gift and talent to help our fellow Cebuanos,” he added.

Osmeña also believes Ong is capable of running for a higher position. However, he said he is not confident with the “people around Ong.”

In a text message to SunStar Cebu, he talked about some people who want him gone should Ong be his vice mayor.

Osmeña, though, did not further confirm whether he is running for mayor next year, based on his statement. (JJL)
