Foton Mandaue Cebu turns over 30 modern jeepneys to Amistad and Tiu Transportation Corporation

FOTON Mandaue Cebu turned over 30 brand-new modern jeepney units to Amistad and Tiu Transportation Corporation on December 8, 2022, at the Amistad Garage in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. Following Foton’s turnover of 15 modern jeepney units earlier in the year, March 28, to the transport corporation, this most recent turnover adds up to a total of 45 modern jeepneys belonging to Amistad and Tiu that ply the Lapu-Lapu to Mandaue route and vice versa.

The F-24 modern jeepney is Foton’s best-selling model in Cebu, making up about 97 percent of its modern jeepney sales and beating out the six-wheeled F-29 and bus-type M-5.2C models. The F-24 is a four-wheeled vehicle that adheres to Euro 4 Standards, which requires low carbon emissions and environment-friendly conditions. The jeepney is powered by a Cummins diesel engine, which has been proven to have increased power and fuel efficiency.

These jeepneys are equipped with a spacious interior in comparison to other modern jeepneys in the market and is equipped with a GPS tracking device, a CCTV camera system, an automated fare collection system, LED signage, and an air-conditioning system to ensure the safety and comfort of public commuters. Each jeepney can accommodate a total of 24 seated and/or standing passengers, including the driver.

Ed Bahala, Foton Mandaue Cebu service head, revealed that Foton offers a “Foton Fleet Service,” which provides training for drivers, fleet management coordination, and unit maintenance. Through this program, drivers are trained to practice safe driving and proper handling of vehicles.

Foton is an ISO-certified brand that sets itself apart through its 11-hectare plant in Luzon and 30 dealerships nationwide. The plant ensures steady production and assembly of units, and the dealerships allow Foton to gain more traction in establishing itself as a leading brand for modern jeepneys and trucks.

With the demand for units increasing and the LTFRB’s constant push for the Jeepney Modernization Program, Foton is expecting to turn over about 50 more modern jeepney units by the first quarter of 2023 and release a new jeepney model sometime next year. Its sales performance in 2022 is generally positive, with significant growth compared to 2021. “We started strong despite the damage and delay caused by Typhoon Odette,” said Foton Mandaue Cebu sales head Niño Procianos. “We saw double digit growth for our first quarter sales versus last year, and we really shot up in the fourth quarter of 2022.”
