Fun run set on May 7 to raise funds for children with heart disease

TO HELP more children suffering from congenital heart disease, Citrineland Corp. and the Rotary Club of Cebu will hold the fourth edition of the Run for Gift of Life, a fundraising and awareness campaign, on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Participants can choose to register for three different categories: the 21-kilometer (km) run (starting gun time 4 a.m.), the 10-km run (4:15 a.m.), and the tandem or solo run for five km, three km and one km (5:30 a.m. to 5:45 a.m.).

All categories start and end at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The registration fees are as follows: P1,000 for the 21-km run; P700 for the 10-km run; P600 for five-km, three-km and one-km individual runs; and P1,200 for the tandem category (one adult and one child participants).

Participants in the 21-kilometer and 10-kilometer categories will receive a finisher’s medal.

Proceeds of the fun run will be for the benefit of children with congenital heart disease.

The deadline for registration is April 20. It can be done by scanning the QR code or visiting www.megatechph.com/events/gift-of-life on the event’s official Facebook page, or by visiting the Cellpod shop at Ayala Center Cebu, Citrineland Showroom or Calyx Centre at Cebu IT Park in Lahug.

Bernard Vonn Sia, one of the organizers, said 100 percent of the proceeds will be used to fund and help children with congenital heart disease in Cebu.

Organizers expect around 3,000 runners to join, which would enable them to raise more than a million pesos in funds.

While this event is open to all ages, participants are strongly encouraged to prepare physically and mentally before joining the race.

Run for the Gift of Life is a major program of the Rotary Club of Cebu that started 12 years ago. It has been helping children with congenital heart defects from indigent families, giving them a second lease on life through funding their much-needed heart operations.
