Globe: Users need to register SIM asap

TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant, Globe, is calling on their subscribers to register their SIM cards especially now that spam messages and security attacks have become even more rampant.

Globe regional corporate communications manager for Visayas-Mindanao Rofil Sheldon Magto said as of February 13, 2023 they have logged only 13.3 million registrations out of the 86.7 million users they have in their database.

During the OpenLine News Forum on Tuesday, February 14, Magto said they are trying to circumvent spam messages by optimizing and improving their systems everyday and through monitoring 24/7.

“Do not engage because the moment that you engage or call or respond to their SMS, it will give them an identifier that your line or SIM is active. So best to report it, we have a platform for that, there’s NTC (National Telecommunications Commission), there’s also the #StopSpam Globe website. Just take a screenshot then upload it, we’ll have it investigated,” Magto said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

Magto said the registration can be done through the following platforms: online website, the GlobeOne app, and via text for postpaid users.

Postpaid users can send SIMREG to 8080 to register their SIM.

Globe also has assisted registration sites in different areas for those who do not have access to the internet.

Magto also encouraged everyone to extend help to those who do not have smartphones or access to the internet so that they can register their SIM.

Senior citizens can be assisted by family members as long as all the identification requirements of the registrant are met.

The deadline for registration is on April 26, 2023. (EKV)
