ANOTHER organization in Cebu has expressed its support for Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in their bid for president and vice president in the May 2022 elections.In a press conference on Wednesday, March 2, Nick Malazarte, head of the Ikaw Muna (IM) Pilipinas Visayas Chapter, believes that Domagoso and Duterte-Carpio are “the best tandem to pole-vault the country’s recovery in the face of daunting challenges brought about by the massive and protracted disruptions and aftershocks of the health pandemic.”Malazarte said the IM Pilipinas was launched last year for the sole purpose of calling Domagoso to run for president in the May 2022 elections. “We believe these fresh and non-conventional leaders have in-depth direct experience in grassroots governance most critical for our country to catch up and leverage on new technologies that is shaping fast the way societies thrive,” he added.Though they respect Dr. Willie Ong, Domagoso’s running mate, Malazarte believed that Ong’s expertise can be utilized should Domagoso and Carpio win the elections.“We believe Doc Willie Ong’s expertise and sincerity in helping the country can be best maximized after an Isko-Sara victory is ensured, in the name of genuine national unity,” Malazarte added.IM Pilipinas is not the first group in the Visayas to have expressed intent to support Domagoso and Carpio.On February this year, members of the Visayas for Isko-Sara Alliance (Visa) also launched its movement in Cebu.But politically, Malazarte believes Domagoso’s campaign can benefit greatly with Duterte-Carpio as his running mate, especially that the presidential daughter is currently the frontrunner among the vice presidential candidates.Members of the IM Pilipinas in Cebu alone include barangay councilors, as well as former and incumbent barangay captains.Although there is no final schedule yet, Malazarte said Domagoso is expected to visit Cebu within this month.Malazarte is also confident that One Cebu, Cebu Province’s administration party, will support Domagoso, citing the recent pronouncements of Deputy Speaker Pablo John “PJ” Garcia.Pablo John is One Cebu’s secretary general.He is also hopeful that Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia will support Domagoso’s candidacy.On February, One Cebu formally announced that it will be supporting Duterte-Carpio for vice president.Though One Cebu has not yet announced who it will endorse for president, some of its high-ranking members, particularly members of the powerful Garcia clan, have already announced their bets for president.Though Pablo John has already announced his support for Domagoso, Governor Gwendolyn’s daughter Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco and her husband, Cebu Rep. Duke Frasco (Cebu, fifth) have already expressed their support for former senator and dictator’s son Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
