How do you know you are exercising enough?

WHY do you exercise? Answers vary depending on the goal of a person.

Some exercise to stay fit, but most people exercise to lose weight and tone some muscles.

But how do you know if you are exercising enough and have achieved your goal?

Fitness coach Pio Solon in his column, “Ways to tell if you are exercising enough,” lists some signs that might tell you that you are not hitting it hard enough with your exercise.

1. You never feel tired after your workouts

Meaning: Your body is comfortable with your routine.

Solution: Mix things up by grabbing heavier weights, or by increasing the intensity of your jogging by doing sprints.

2. Your body composition is not changing

Meaning: You’re not losing fat, not building muscle, or not losing any weight.

Solution: Keep track of what you’re eating and see if you need to adjust your diet. This can happen when you’re not training hard enough or if your diet does not match your goal.

3. You’re chatting more than exercising in your workouts

Meaning: You’re probably exercising at too low of intensity for any meaningful adaptation.

Solution: Keep a heart rate monitor when doing cardiovascular exercise to see if you’re working out in the right zone.

Coach Solon’s advice: “Exercising too little often leaves us feeling unsatisfied with our effort. It’s just as dangerous as actually doing too much exercise. Try to challenge yourself with your workouts and see what your body is capable of doing.” (MVG)
