THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) has warned the operators and drivers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) not to overcharge the commuters or else they will face penalties.The agency, in a social media post, reminds PUV operators and drivers, particularly those operating public utility jeepneys (PUJs), to follow the rates in accordance to their routes.LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto told SunStar Cebu that his office had received complaints from individuals who said that some PUJ drivers are overcharging the passengers.Montealto is urging the public to report overcharging PUJ drivers to their office or through their hotline number 09177046862.The regional director said the report should indicate the plate number or body number of the traditional or modern PUJ, the date and time, and the route origin and destination, as well as the name and contact number of the complainant.Montealto said they will issue a show cause order to the operator and the driver.He, however, said no operator or driver of a PUJ had so far been issued with a show cause order for overcharging fares.Based on the Joint Administrative Order 2014-01, violators should pay a fine of P5,000 for the first offense and P10,000 and impounding of the unit for 30 days for the second offense.The third offense carries a fine of P15,000 and cancellation of certificate of public convenience, an authorization that allows a unit to transport passengers.
