M2.9 earthquake hits Aloguinsan town, Cebu

A MAGNITUDE 2.9 earthquake struck Aloguinsan town, Cebu on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2022.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the 2.9 magnitude earthquake jolted the town at 1:06 p.m.

The tectonic quake had a depth of one kilometer.

Meanwhile, Intensity I was felt in Argao town, southern Cebu and Talibon, Bohol.

Aftershocks are expected and residents are told to take necessary precautions when this happens.

Some local government units in southern Cebu had to temporarily stop work when the quake hit their areas on Wednesday.

In Carcar City, City Hall employees and their clients had to evacuate and gather outside the government structure.

In a statement posted on Carcar City’s official Facebook page, Mayor Mario Patricio “Patrick” Barcenas had to calm both his employees and clients alike after jolts were felt at City Hall.

Work at the Carcar City Hall eventually resumed after a few minutes. (JGS, JKV)
