MEMBERS of the Makabayan Bloc have endorsed the tandem of former tourism secretary and Cebu gubernatorial candidate Joseph Felix “Ace” Durano and reelectionist Vice Gov. Hilario Davide III in the May 2022 elections.On Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, Makabayan Bloc senatorial candidates Neri Colmenares and Elmer Labog met with Durano to express their support for his tandem with Davide in their bid for the two highest positions in Cebu Province.In their declaration of support, Makabayan Bloc Central Visayas head John Ruiz said Durano and Davide have gained their support due to their series of consultations with concerned groups including farmers, transport groups and fisherfolk, among others, and including them in their campaign policy.Ruiz also noted that the two candidates are eyeing not just to further improve the Province’s tourism industry but also to improve the lives of their constituents.But most importantly, the Makabayan bloc, including the two senatorial candidates, Colmenares and Labog, said, they have the same mindset or hopes as Durano and Davide, which is to improve the healthcare system in the Province, which is among their top priorities.They noted that provincial and district hospitals in Cebu have poor healthcare systems, citing the lack of medical personnel and equipment, among others.Members of the Makabayan Bloc also supported the two candidates for their plans to increase the wages of minimum wage earners in the Province.In a separate interview, Durano said the endorsement of the Makabayan Bloc would give him an edge in his gubernatorial bid.Durano also expressed his plans to endorse Colmenares and Labog as part of their group’s senatorial lineup.Durano and Davide are going up against reelectionist Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and her runningmate, Dr. Maria Theresa Heyrosa, in the May polls.
