Mandaue to give P500K to ‘drug cleared’ villages

THE Mandaue City Government is set to provide a P500,000 incentive to its barangays if they will gain a drug-cleared status.This after the Mandaue City Council passed a resolution on Monday, July 11, 2022, authorizing the City to give a cash incentive of P500,000 to barangays that gain drug-cleared status by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing and by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).According to the resolution, the P500,000 cash incentive will be used to help the drug-cleared barangays’ after programs for their drug surrenderers.Mandaue City has nine drug cleared barangays: Basak, Casili, Paknaan, Tabok, Opao, Bakilid, Tawason, Tingub and Subangdaku.Three out of these nine barangays already received their cash assistance on Wednesday.ConsolacionMeanwhile, two barangays in Consolacion town, northern Cebu were recognized by town officials on Tuesday, July 12, after they were declared as “drug cleared.” Officials of Barangays Cabangahan and Polog were recognized by Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado during the Municipality’s Strengthening Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council Functionality and Barangay Drug Clearing Program awards.Consolacion now has seven barangays that have “drug cleared” status. Other drug-cleared barangays in the town are Panas, Panoypoy, Lanipga, Lamac and Sacsac.Cabangahan village chief Edwin Miñoza and Polog village chief Glenn Reuyan told SunStar Cebu that their barangays’ drug-cleared status was achieved through various factors, including continuous convincing of their drug surrenderers to undergo rehabilitation and providing livelihood assistance to their surrenderers once they completed rehabilitation.Some measures they initiated include conducting regular meetings with the former drug personalities to check on their situation and providing them with recreational activities.
