Margallo faces Alaoui in UAE Warriors 36

VETERAN Jayson Margallo makes his way back to the Middle East as he takes on experienced Canadian Xavier Alaoui in one of the featured fights in UAE Warriors 36 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Margallo returns to the UAE Warriors cage after two years.

“I’m very excited to show off my skills on UAE Warriors again. The last time I was here didn’t go too well for me, but this time, I’ll show you just how fierce ‘Oragon’ can be. (Oragon is his nickname),” Margallo said in a statement.

The 28-year-Margallo lost both of his outings in the UAE Warriors cage. He lost to Aussie Trent Girdham by a third round stoppage in 2019 and was beaten by Russian Shamil Magomedov by unanimous decision in 2021.

Margallo won his last two fights, both in the Philippines. He submitted Wilson Managuio and Arjay Ortega both via a rear-naked choke last year.

Margallo will be up against a tough assignment in Alaoui, who is the UAE Warriors Arabia bantamweight champion.

“Alaoui is the UAE Arabian Champion, so I expect that this will be a challenging fight. He has a belt, he comes from a prestigious team with high-profile fighters. It will be interesting to see how well I’ll perform against him,” he said. “We both have experience and I can see that we’re both well-rounded fighters. It’ll be an explosive fight for sure. As for the outcome, who knows how things will turn out?”

The 31-year-old Alaoui won the UAE Warriors Arabia bantamweight belt with a second round knockout of Fabricio Sarraff last year. He’s 3-1 in the UAE Warriors cage.

Margallo is 11-5, while Alaoui is 13-4.

Also seeing action in the same card are Pinoy fighters Genil Francisco and Mark Gregory Valerio.

Francisco (12-7) is up against Magomedov (12-3-1), while Valerio (7-7) squares off with Dennis Buzukja (9-2). (EKA)
