Metuda faces Sonsona in Sanman Bubble

RIMAR Metuda will have his hands full as he headlines Sanman Promotions’ latest “bubble” boxing event against experienced Eden Sonsona on March 17 at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City.

After a rough patch in his young promising career from 2018 and 2019, the 26-year-old Metuda is back on track, winning back-to-back fights in late 2019. He knocked out Jhesriel Vijano in one round and beat Nelson Gulpe by unanimous decision.

The 32-year-old Sonsona is now just a shell of his former self that was once one of the most promising fighters from the Philippines. In his peak, Sonsona fought the likes of Kohei Kono, Silence Mabuza, Pungluang Sor Singyu, Jonathan Oquendo, Bernabe Concepcion and Adrian Estrella.

Sonsona is currently on a slump, dropping his last six fights. His latest loss was a second round technical knockout in the hands of former world champion Marlon Tapales in 2020.

Metuda is 14-6-1 with eight knockouts, while Sonsona is 36-12-2 with 13 knockouts.

John Vincent Moralde (23-4, 13 KOs) looks to bounce back from a loss in the United States as he takes on Kim Lindog (5-9-1, 4 KOs) in one of the featured fights.

Former world-rated Froilan Saludar (31-4-1, 22 KOs) hopes to get his career back on track as he takes on tough veteran Reymark Taday (10-13-1, 5 KOs) in the other featured bout.

In the undercard, 19-year-prospect Ian Sampan (2-0, 2 KOs) locks horns with Yoban Limentillo (2-3, 1 KO), Adam Diu Abdulhamid (15-9, 7 KOs) slugs it out with dangerous journeyman Romeo Jackosalem (18-19-1, 10 KOs), Carjun Carcosia (8-1-1, 7 KOs) looks to bounce back from a tough loss in Australia and faces Jhesriel Vijano (5-3-1, 3 KOs), Jake Bornea (14-3, 7 KOs) squares off with Nicardo Calamba (9-32-4, 6 KOs), Harmonito dela Torre (21-3, 13 KOs) trades leathers with Renan Portes (10-13, 6 KOs) and Jerry Francisco (8-1, 2 KOs) is up against Jerry Tabago (1-6-1).

This is Sanman Promotions’ third “bubble” boxing show since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in 2020.

“Sanman only brings you pure boxing action and nothing else. We have consistently done it in the past and will continue to deliver. Your support is what keeps us going. See you on March 17,” said Sanman chief executive officer JC Manangquil.
