New Filipino brand of skincare aims to grow in VisMin, launches in Cebu

AN up-and-coming skincare and personal care brand has picked Cebu as its launching pad to penetrate the Visayas and Mindanao (VisMin) markets, citing the island’s sophisticated preference on top-notch and high quality beauty and wellness products.

8 Sonaka Inc., the firm behind skincare Kemans, is confident of growing its presence in VisMin amid the presence of inflation-weary shoppers as beauty and wellness products remain in demand regardless of economic season.

Cebu’s performance, being the pilot area for the launching, will be an important determinant in the company’s nationwide expansion.

Quoting a study by Euromonitor International, Lerma Sta. Cruz, general manager at Kemans, said Filipinos spent more on skincare and hygiene products even at the height of the pandemic.

“Consumers are paying more attention to how they look,” said Sta. Cruz, adding that this explains the continued boom of beauty products being sold in online and offline markets even during the two-year lockdown season.

Kemans is the consumer product arm of The Icon Clinic owned by plastic surgeon Dr. Eric Yapjuangco and wife Vina Yapjuangco, Keman’s founder.

Sta. Cruz said the couple thought of making a separate entity for its skincare brand after discovering the big business opportunity for their products—which are regularly used by their patients who underwent plastic surgery procedures—to reach a wider market.

“We want to be part of every Filipino and Filipina’s way of life through these skincare and personal care solutions and business opportunities,” said Yapjuangco.

Kemans is expertly formulated skin care and personal care solutions brand that is said to offer real results.

Launched in 2021, the products are made with world-class quality with each and every ingredient carefully picked and produced in state-of-the-art facilities and sold at a price that is affordable.

Given that there are already a lot of skincare and beauty brands in the Philippines, Yapjuangco sets Kemans apart by personally taking part in the product research and development of Kemans’ portfolio, given her background in pharmacy.

“Kemans is FDA approved, expertly formulated, and safe on the skin,” said Yapjuangco.

Sta. Cruz added that Kemans’ products are ideated and developed with the Filipino consumers’ needs and wants.

The products are tailor-fit to address the critical shopping motivators of its target market – effects and benefits, affordability and brand credibility; and everyday skincare problems – oily skin, dull and dry skin, uneven skin tone, acne scars, and blemishes.

“We ensure that we offer products that will deliver the results that you are looking for,” said Yapjuangco.

Kemans products are available in online shopping sites and through distributorship. This aspect in the business, according to Sta. Cruz, is the firm’s way of helping Filipinos earn extra-income or jumpstart their plans to become entrepreneurs.
