Olsim loses to Phogat in Grand Prix semis

JENELYN Olsim failed to advance to the finals of the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix after losing to Indian sensation Ritu Phogat by unanimous decision in ONE – “NEXTGEN” last Oct. 29, 2021, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Olsim, who came in as a replacement for Itsuki Hirata with just a week’s notice, used her striking to her advantage early on. But Phogat did what she does best, using her strength and wrestling.

Phogat started the second round with a huge slam and controlled the fight by taking the fight to the canvass. Even though she was on her back, Olsim was busy on the ground and attempted to submit Phogat. Olsim’s effort wasn’t enough though as the judges favored Phogat and gave her the unanimous victory.

Olsim suffered her first loss in the ONE Championship cage and dopped to 5-3, while Phogat continues her ascent in the women’s atomweight division and improved to 7-1.

Phogat faces Stamp Fairtex in the Grand Prix finals after the latter beat Julie Mezabarba by unanimous decision in the main event. (EKA)
