More pet owners availed themselves of the DVMF’s services in February with 8,479 vaccination services compared to January with only 2,513 vaccines administered.
DVMF head Dr. Jessica Maribojoc told SunStar Cebu Monday, March 6, that the vaccination services are free but there are pet owners who avail themselves of the “perpetual registration” for their pets which is only worth P600.
The registration includes access to vaccines, vitamins, microchips, and other services provided by the DVMF.
Meanwhile, the DVMF has also accommodated 133 stray dogs in its impounding center, which is lower compared to the 151 stray dogs it rescued in January.
The DVMF’s activities are part of its month-long celebration of Rabies Awareness Month wherein free anti-rabies vaccines are being rolled out in the city’s 80 barangays.
The DVMF is also providing free implanting of microchips for 100 dogs. Microchips can be used in tracking and identification of pets.
Maribojoc had earlier explained that the microchips will serve as a lifetime identification of the dogs that can be located through radio frequency.
Once a pet escapes the house and gets found, the DVMF can scan the microchip to identify the owners and determine if there had been negligence on their part.
