Police set out to prevent buses from picking up passengers outside CSBT

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will deploy police officers outside the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, after learning that the 75 percent seating capacity on buses has not been followed because bus drivers pick up passengers outside the depot.

The CSBT management complained that there were passengers going to southern Cebu who waited for the buses across the terminal on N. Bacalso Ave. in Cebu City.

Buses leave CSBT when they reach 75 percent of their seating capacity. But it is a different story after they exit the terminal—drivers pick up passengers along their routes, resulting in overloading and the social distancing rule is neglected.

Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operation, said they will deploy police officers and station them across CSBT, on the sidewalk of the southbound lane.

Parilla said they will issue citation tickets to drivers who pick up passengers waiting in undesignated areas, but the CCPO will not apprehend commuters.

The CCPO personnel will also check the buses to make sure they are not crowded and the passengers are wearing masks. (AYB / KAL)
