TO ADDRESS the low number of Central Visayas residents who have registered for the national identification system, the Philippine Statistics Authority Central Visayas (PSA 7) conducted mobile registrations in the local government units (LGUs) and institutional registrations in establishments.
About 3,343,540 Filipinos have registered for the PhilSys Step 2 as of Aug. 3, 2021 in Central Visayas, or 56 percent of the region’s 2021 target of 5.9 million.
Cebu Province ranks first with 2,052,351 registrants, followed by Bohol with 677,458, Negros Oriental with 593,638 and Siquijor with 22,408 registrants for the same period.
Edwina Carriaga, chief administrative officer for the Civil Registration and Administration Support Division of PSA 7, told SunStar Cebu that about 3.4 million Filipinos are waiting for the distribution of cards, the printing of which had been assigned to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Carriaga said in terms of accomplishment of target, Negros Oriental has the most registrants among the four provinces in the region.
Carriaga said Negros Oriental has a target of more or less 500,000, while Cebu has a target of 3,984,559 for 2021.
Meanwhile, Cebu City has the highest number of registrants with 510,652, followed by Lapu-Lapu City with 223,598 and Mandaue City with 215,246 registrants as of Aug. 10, 2021.
In Cebu Province, Toledo City ranks first with 83,456 registrants followed by Naga City (62,674), Barili (39,315), Argao (38,366), Medelllin (29,012) and Dumanjug (27,820) for the same period.
Furthermore, Firmo Diputado, PSA Cebu Provincial Statistical Office chief statistical specialist, said they have accomplished 26 percent of the 3.9 million total target for 2021 in Cebu Province.
Diputado said they are establishing mobile registrations in each LGU in Cebu aside from the seven registration centers in Cebu City, three in Lapu-Lapu City and four in
Mandaue City.
