South bus depot to test automated ticket system

THE Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) in Cebu City will hold a dry run of its centralized automated ticketing system on Monday, March 15, 2021.

The purpose of the dry run is to remind bus operators, terminal personnel and commuters that the modern system of collecting bus fares will take effect on April 15.

After the dry run, the CSBT management, Topline Hi-Tech and Synergy Corp. and bus operators will sign a memorandum of agreement.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia also announced that bus operators that did not sign the agreement would not be allowed to enter the terminal.

Through the agreement, Topline will collect passenger fares using its automated cards. The company’s system directly remits the fare collection to bus companies.

Adopting a new ticketing system at CSBT aims to eliminate the old way of issuing tickets that often creates a long line outside ticketing booths during rush hours or holiday season in pre-pandemic days and delay the dispatch of buses.

The social distancing rule will be observed as commuters do not have to crowd at the entrance of the CSBT to buy tickets.

Loads for Topline cards can be purchased online or through automated online banking. (ANV / KAL)
