STL collector gunned down; another hurt

A 32-YEAR-OLD man was killed while another was hurt when an unidentified assailant shot them in Barangay Balaas, Argao, Cebu at Saturday dawn, November 20, 2021.

Romnick Mier Villafuerte, 32, a resident of the barangay, was playing billiards at his house when an unidentified man on board a motorcycle suddenly came to his house and fired at him using an undetermined caliber of firearm at around 12 a.m. on Saturday.

Corporal John Mark Canonigo of the Argao Police Station said Villafuerte died instantly while a bystander, identified as 19-year-old Dondie Camerino, sustained injuries during the incident.

Police Maj. Rodgene Fudotan, who heads the Argao Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that they are looking into different angles in Villafuerte’s murder, including the possibility that the murder may have been related to his work as a collector for an illegal small town lottery (STL) scheme.

Fudotan said they received reports that Villafuerte was known to have collected STL earnings as far as Dalaguete town.

Another murder

He added that Villafuerte was also connected to a certain Benjoe Belandres, an STL coordinator, who was gunned down in Dalaguete last year for unknown reasons.

Fudotan said they are currently coordinating with their colleagues in Dalaguete town to get an investigation report on Belandres’ murder. (BBT / JKV)
