Upcoming retail summit to retool, reskill next generation of leaders

THE Philippine Retailers Association (PRA), the national organization of retailers, shopping malls and suppliers in the country, will mount its first-ever virtual Retail Leaders Summit on Oct. 27-28, 2022.

The two-day event will be anchored on the theme “Retail Revamp: Reskilling and Retooling the Next-Gen Retail Leaders.”

PRA said the event aims to uncover new retail mindset ideas, share perspectives on strategy and leadership towards creating future-ready retail leaders and stay competitive in the market with leading local and global companies, influencers, and advisors.

It is designed for next generation leaders, founders, top executives, senior and middle managers, supervisors, start-ups and entrepreneurs.

This year’s theme highlights the journey towards winning the new retail that requires nurturing skills and knowledge that focuses on technology, mindset and people.

“If not now, when? If not us, then who? It’s time for retail leaders to shift, recreate, and accelerate as the industry face the future of retail,” the organization said.

Fortune 500

PRA has tapped high-caliber retail thought leaders to speak at the summit.

Global chief executive and Fortune 500 retail executive George Minakakis and Levi Strauss general manager for Southeast Asia and Thailand Sameer Koul will kick off Day 1 of the virtual summit.

They are expected to share an in-depth guide to reshaping next-gen retail leaders to operate, compete and create value.

Minakakis will present winning strategies to future proofing businesses especially in this current global economic environment. Koul, on the other hand, will share the best practices of Levi Strauss & Co. and its going beyond business by reinvesting back in communities.

Moreover, HR metrics innovator and distinguished principal research fellow Dr. Solange Charas and Global Consumer and Business Psychologist Zana Busby are the speakers on the second day whose talks will center on investing in human capital and workplace and employee wellbeing.

The virtual summit will feature a range of sessions from branding, data analytics and digital technology, to CRM, theory of constraints, agile leadership and many more that are meant to increase retail leaders’ skills & competencies, forge partnerships, and boost offline and online store success.

The country’s retail industry is poised to grow this year, amid rising inflation.

PRA president Rosemarie Ong was quoted in a report as saying that the sector is “showing dynamic growth recovery” amid economic challenges.

Ong said the sector is anchoring its positive sentiment on the easing of restrictions and people going back to the physical format or face-to-face dealings.
