Victim of ‘hit-and-run’ dies; 2 hurt in motorcycle collision

A MOTORCYCLE driver lost his life hours after he was allegedly struck by a taxi along N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The victim was identified as 28-year-old Marlon Impas, a resident of the barangay.

According to Chief Master Sergeant Renante Abuzo of the Inayawan Police Station, the accident happened past 1 p.m., while Impas died around 4 p.m.

Abuzo said Impas was thrown under a van driven by Rodney Cabahug and his body was dragged 30 meters.

Cabahug, who is detained in the Inayawan Police Station, was the one who told authorities that a taxi had struck Impas’ motorcycle.

Abuzo said they will release Cabahug as soon as they find the taxi and its driver or they find witnesses to corroborate the latter’s story.

Also on Saturday, two motorcycle drivers landed at the Cebu City Medical Center after they collided on F. Jaca Street in Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City past 2 p.m.

They were identified as Rejoemar Sumacal, a 30-year-old native of Barangay Bullugan in the southwestern town of Dumanjug, Cebu, and 22-year-old Angel Velez.

Abuzo said Sumacal was overtaking when he collided with Velez’s motorcycle in the opposite lane.
