Wilson avenges loss, KOs Noynay in rematch

AUSSIE prospect Liam Wilson avenged his loss to world-ranked Cebuano Joe Noynay after knocking him out in two rounds in their rematch on March 3 at the Nissan Arena in Queensland, Australia.Wilson caught Noynay with a vicious right hook that dropped him flat to the canvas. Noynay was out for a moment but quickly stood back up staggering to the ropes. Noynay’s corner swiftly went up the ring to stop the fight. Referee Tony Kettlewell waved off the bout at the 2:50 mark of the second round declaring Wilson the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super featherweight champion.Noynay suffered his first defeat in five years and dropped to 19-3-2 with eight knockouts. Wilson, in the meantime, improved to 10-1 with seven knockouts and avenged his only career defeat.Noynay and Wilson first fought each other on July 7, 2021. Noynay, a native of Bogo City, dropped Wilson three times enroute to a fifth round technical knockout in New South Wales, Australia.Noynay is currently ranked No. 6 by the WBO and No. 14 in both the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation in the super featherweight division.After the loss, Noynay would most likely dip or even drop out of the world rankings.
