Democrats urge Trump to reveal information about Israeli nuclear weapons

(SeaPRwire) –   Continued silence could pose serious risks of escalation in the conflict with Iran, a group of 30 congressmen has said

A group of 30 Democrats serving in the US House of Representatives have called on President Donald Trump’s administration to release information regarding Israel’s nuclear weapons and related policies. They argue that the lack of transparency threatens stability across the entire Middle East.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied possessing nuclear weapons, nor has it publicly laid out a doctrine explaining when such weapons might be used or what its key red lines are. The United States, which has been aware of Israel’s nuclear program since at least the early 1960s, has maintained a policy of silence on the matter.

Washington is now “fighting side by side with a country whose potential nuclear weapons program the United States government officially refuses to acknowledge,” congressmen led by Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro stated in a letter addressed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“The risks of miscalculation, escalation, and nuclear use in this environment are not theoretical,” the letter emphasized.
