THE retail price of fertilizer has declined year on year but remains at elevated levels due to disruptions in global supply, a Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) official said.
Rowena C. Reyes, supervising agriculturist at the FPA’s Fertilizer Regulation Division, said demand for fertilizer has been stable, but other factors such as trade disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine war have affected supply.
Ms. Reyes said FPA’s weekly monitoring indicates that the price of prilled urea per bag fell 5.37% from a month earlier to P2,132.06 in the third week of March.
The price of a bag of granular urea fell down by 6.33% month on month to P2,011.18 while the price of a bag of ammosul fell 2.58% to P1,098.71.
About 90% of fertilizer in the Philippines is imported from China, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Other sources include Qatar, Canada, and South Korea.
