A former student opened fire at a vocational high school in Siverek, a city in south-eastern Türkiye, injuring over a dozen individuals before taking his own life, the local governor has stated.
Police confirmed that a minimum of 16 people were wounded in Tuesday’s assault. The injured included ten students, four teachers, a police officer, and a canteen operator, they further specified.
Footage from Siverek in the country’s Sanliurfa province depicted numerous students frantically evacuating the school as the incident unfolded.
Sanliurfa province governor Hasan Sildak reported that the 18-year-old assailant, armed with a shotgun, discharged the weapon indiscriminately at individuals in the school’s courtyard.
Sildak added that the man subsequently entered the building, where he later used the same shotgun to commit suicide.

Media outlets asserted that the shooter had also held several students captive. He reportedly took his own life subsequent to declining surrender proposals from special forces units that had encircled the educational institution.
NTV broadcaster indicated that one of the teachers injured in the shooting is in a critical state.
Police stated that the assailant’s motivations are presently under investigation.
