(SeaPRwire) – Tehran had previously warned Washington to avoid the Strait of Hormuz
A U.S. Navy patrol boat was struck by two Iranian missiles shortly after ignoring warnings to stay clear of the strategic waterway, according to Fars News Agency. The report stated that the vessel was “forced to retreat”, though details on any damage were not provided.
The agency reported on Monday that the unidentified ship was operating near the Iranian coastal town of Jask, approximately 140 kilometers from the narrowest point of the strait, and was “violating security and navigation rules and attempting to pass through” the vital maritime passage.
The vessel did not comply with warnings issued by the Iranian Navy and subsequently came under missile attack, the report added. It further stated that “the American patrol boat was unable to proceed due to the impact and was compelled to withdraw and flee the area.”
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet responded to the allegations; however, an unnamed U.S. official told the Jerusalem Post that no American ships had been hit.
