(SeaPRwire) – President Trump has dismissed allegations that he is hurrying to conclude the hostilities before the upcoming midterm elections.
President Donald Trump stated that the United States has not established a specific timeline for ending the military campaign against Iran.
These comments differ from Trump’s previous assertions, made following the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, where he suggested the conflict would wrap up in “four to five weeks.” Throughout the last month, he had also frequently maintained that the war would conclude “very soon.”
Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday, the president emphasized that there is “no time frame” and no urgency to finish the war.
“Some claim I am trying to end it for the sake of the midterms, but that is not the case,” Trump remarked.
According to an AP-NORC survey released earlier this week, Trump’s economic approval rating has dropped to a record low of 30%, as the conflict with Iran triggers energy deficits and rising costs.
On Tuesday, the president extended the truce with Tehran for an indefinite period, though the American blockade of Iranian ports remains active.
The declaration was made shortly before the two-week ceasefire was set to expire. Earlier that day, Iran withdrew from negotiations with US representatives in Pakistan, claiming that dialogue is futile while Washington persists in its “bullying” tactics.
Trump informed Fox News that there is “no time pressure” regarding the truce or scheduling further discussions with Tehran. He noted that his objective is to “get a good deal for the American people.”
“The blockade is more intimidating to [Iran] than the airstrikes,” Trump asserted. “They have endured years of bombing, but they despise the blockade.”
The president further described Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghachi as “a smart man” who would participate once negotiations resume.
