Carcosia steps in for Laurente vs. Baconaje

HARD-HITTING Presco Carcosia is the new opponent for Arnel Baconaje in the main event of Manny Pacquiao’s “Blow by Blow” show on Feb. 26 at the Lagao Gym in Gen. Santos City.

The 26-year-old Carcosia stepped in as the replacement for former amateur standout Criztian Pitt Laurente after the latter suffered an injury in training.

Carcosia, who fights out of the Sanman Gym in Gen. Santos City, is looking to bounce back after losing his last fight last year. He lost to Musashi Mori by unanimous decision in an eight-rounder at the Ota City Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan on July 13, 2022.

Carcosia is known for his heavy hands, wherein all of his wins except for one, a technical decision win over Angelito Merin, are by way of knockout.

Like Carcosia, the 29-year-old Baconaje is also looking to bounce back after losing his last fight. He’s coming off a majority decision defeat against Hong Quan Dinh in an International Boxing Federation Asia lightweight clash at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Vung Tau, Vietnam on Dec. 10, 2022.

Carcosia and Baconaje, a former sparring partner of Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue, are fighting for the vacant Philippine Games and Amusements Board super featherweight belt.

Carcosia is 10-2 with nine knockouts, while Baconaje is 15-6 with 11 knockouts.
