MORE traffic citation tickets were issued by the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) in October this year compared to the previous month, the office’s records showed.
According to the CCTO, 11,073 citation tickets were issued to drivers for violations of different traffic rules in October, which is higher than the 9,612 citation tickets issued in September this year.
Most of the violations are driving without a driver’s license and driving vehicles without registration documents.
The CCTO also filed 61 cases in court against drivers who failed to settle their fines within 72 hours.
Drivers who have been issued citation tickets are given 72 hours or three days to pay for the fine at the CCTO.
If they fail to pay the fine within 72 hours, the CCTO can file a case in court, where the drivers are compelled to pay higher fines.
“Pahinumdom namo sa tanan, kon kita madakpan o ma issuehan og traffic citation ticket, palihug i-settle dayon. Gitagaan ra kita og 72 hours para mag settle sa atong violation (We remind all the drivers to pay the fine immediately if they are apprehended and issued a citation ticket. You have only 72 hours to do so),” the CCTO said.
Aside from increased penalties, a court case would cause more inconvenience on the part of the violator. That is why it would be best to go straight to the CCTO to settle the violation, the traffic office said.
The CCTO also reminded the drivers not to drive vehicles that are not registered and to make sure they have a driver’s license.
