A FORMER high school basketball player was arrested on Friday afternoon, April 22, 2022, in a mountain resort in Barangay Liburon, Carcar City after he was caught defecating in the establishment’s swimming pool and destroying some of its equipment.Local police identified the suspect as Dilcer Gaviola, 20, a resident of Sitio Saimon, Barangay Can-asujan, in the same city.Lt. Col. Ardioleto Cabagnot, who heads Carcar City’s police force, said the incident happened at the Carcar Eco Farm Resort in Villa Anonang, Barangay Liburon at around 5:30 p.m.Cabagnot said Salbert Garces, the operations manager of the resort, called their office to complain of Gaviola’s antics at that time.According to Garces, Gaviola was swimming at their resort’s pool when he was suddenly caught by the on-duty life guard to have destroyed the pool’s skimmer.A pool skimmer is a filter that captures floating debris before it can sink to the bottom of the pool.Garces told police that aside from destroying the pool’s skimmer, Gaviola was also caught allegedly defecating in the pool.Cabagnot said Gaviola was believed to be drunk at the time of the incident.Cabagnot said Gaviola is set to face a malicious mischief charge and was immediately jailed.Gaviola was a former high school basketball player playing for the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars. In 2020, Gaviola was recruited to be part of the college varsity squad for the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila.SunStar Cebu tried to get Gaviola’s side on the matter but he refused to issue a statement.
