The family has worked this ground for almost 200 years. Cattle, tobacco, row crops. The offer was generational wealth. The answer was still no. The family has owned that land for nearly two centuries, and that length of memory changes the math. A check can replace a crop. It cannot replace a home. Most tech coverage will treat this as a sentimental anomaly, one rural family clinging to the past. That reading is lazy.
