A physical altercation erupted on Capitol Hill involving a former Marine, a Republican senator, and law enforcement officers
An anti-war protester opposed to military action against Iran sustained injuries during a scuffle with a U.S. senator and police officers after disrupting a Senate hearing at Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Brian McGinnis—Green Party candidate for a North Carolina Senate seat and former U.S. Marine—yelled slogans in the middle of a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing where members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were testifying.
As three police officers and Senator Tim Sheehy tried to escort McGinnis out of the room, he clung to the door and shouted, “No one wants to fight for Israel.”
Footage of the incident shows McGinnis’ right arm breaking, while a bystander is heard screaming, “His hand, his hand!” Later, someone asked McGinnis, “Is your hand alright?” He replied, “No, it’s not.”
Sheehy, a Montana Republican, said he saw police handling “an unhinged protester” and decided to step in “to assist and deescalate the situation.”
“This individual came to the Capitol looking for a confrontation, and he got one,” the senator posted on X.
